Tuesday, the government held a press briefing headed by the Minister of State for Media Affairs, Sakher Dudin, and the Minister of Education, and Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mohammad Abu Qdais, to discuss the new COVID-19 measures that were announced by Dudin earlier Tuesday.

Dudin stated that the latest COVID-19 updates in the Kingdom require everyone to be cautious and impose stricter measures in order to gain control over the pandemic and the health and safety of citizens.

"This is our priority," he said.

During the press briefing, Dudin only addressed new restrictions on the education sector.

He announced that the government has decided to suspend all in-person education across all schools and universities. Remote learning will replace in-person education beginning Wednesday March 10 until further notice. This decision includes kindergarten.

All administrative and teaching staff can continue to operate in schools at minimum capacity.

He added that as of Wednesday morning, all vocational training centers will be shut down until April 1.

Dudin stated that in order to avoid shutting down daycares, which are necessary in order to enable mothers to continue working, inspection tours must increase.

Dudin stated, "The government did not hope to reach such strict measures, but preserving and protecting the health of Jordanians is a national responsibility and a moral and humanitarian duty, for which we will spare no effort."

Dudin said that the government will announce other precautionary and restrictive measures during the cabinet session scheduled for Wednesday, in addition to other decisions which may be issued Thursday.

Earlier Tuesday, Dudin announced new COVID-19 measures including the extension of curfew hours, gym closures, and Friday lockdowns.
