A member of the National Committee for Epidemics Bassam Hijawi Monday said a long total lockdown is very important in limiting the spread of COVID-19 in Jordan in order to 'break the chain of infection.' He added that the committee made several suggestions to the government for way to limit further spreading of the virus.

Hijjawi said one of the suggestions was imposing a four to five-day lockdown, in addition to extending curfew hours and tightening supervision over facilities. The committee has also discussed the possibility of switching first, second and third grade students back to distance education.

Regarding vaccination, Hijawi said that those who did not get vaccinated 'must bear the responsibility for that.'

He noted that the Minister of Health Nathir Obeidat requested the presence of the President of the Private Hospitals Association Fawzi al-Hamouri to involve all private hospitals in Jordan in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Former MP Ibrahim al-Bdour said that during a national crisis, there should be full coordination between the government and private hospitals in confronting the pandemic. He stressed that a total lockdown for a long period in Jordan is considered 'economic suicide.'

Regarding Ramadan, Hijawi said the committee recommended not allowing any gatherings during the holy month.
