Thursday, the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas issued a decision declaring a state of emergency amid the coronavirus crisis which is surging through Palestine.

The state of emergency will be for a period of 30 days starting Thursday. The state of emergency involves imposing lockdowns and tightening coronavirus restrictions across Palestine.

Palestine recorded 18 deaths and 2,300 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, announced the Palestinian Minister of Health Mai al-Kaila Thursday.

The new deaths involved 12 in the West Bank, one in the Gaza Strip and five in Jerusalem.

The recovery rate in Palestine stands at 89.5 percent, while the active case rate is 9.4 percent and the death rate is 1.1 percent.
