The head of the Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC), Khalil Hajj Tawfiq, stated during his participation in Roya's Nabd AlBalad, that the commercial sector paid the price for the mistakes of other sectors and their lack of adherance to the health measures set in order to tackle the pandemic.

He indicated that he holds the government responsible for the closures and losses of the commercial sector. He said that the commercial sector faced losses during 2020 amounting to more than JD two billion.

He questioned the effectiveness of imposing a Friday total lockdown on the decrease in the number of coronavirus cases, and whether there was a scientific study proving the efficacy of the "one-day" lockdown, noting that he does ont support these decisions.

Additionally, Hajj Tawfiq indicated that the losses of wedding halls alone within 2020 amounted to nearly JD 200 million.

He asked: "After two or three weeks, if it turns out that the closure measures did not help in reducing the numbers of coronavirus infections, who bears the responsibility?"

Hajj Tawfiq called for reopening the sectors and tightening supervision to health measure adherance simultaneously, stressing that continuing to impose closures will constitute a horrific loss for the Jordanian economy.
