KEPCO-Jordan (Qatrana Electric Power Company, Amman Asia Electric Power Company and Fujeij Wind Power Company) is celebrating implanting six corneas for patients in Qatrana, Sahab and Ma'an Governorate, in cooperation with the Jordan Eye Bank.

During the ceremony organized at the Eye Bank in Amman, the three companies presented gifts to patients who were treated as part of such companies’ initiative.

When asked, Mr. Kyuhyun Ryu, the CEO of Qatrana Electric Power Company, about the purpose of this initiative, and the message he wished to deliver to the society, he stated that:

“First, we are a group of companies that own and manage major electric power plants in Jordan. The main shareholder of these companies is Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). One of the roles of our work is to generate energy and also to be an effective part of the society, so we decided to arrange for this event as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility."

Mr. Ryu added that, “We decided to support such event as we believe that enlightening vision is important as enlightening the world; therefore, despite of difficult situations we all are going through due to the current pandemic, we would like to give some hope to the Jordanian society."

Mr. Ryu concluded by stating that, “We encourage other companies to support medical providers and people in need for medical attention, as companies could contribute in giving chances to people to be active members of the society, by facilitating their affairs and support them. There is no standard for contributions, as simple initiatives such as spreading a smile could provide huge impact on the society."

Therefore, as part of these companies' support to the local community, they decided to help people who suffer from eyes problems in cooperation with Jordan Eye Bank, by taking charge of all corneal transplant costs. The director of the Jordan Eye Bank, Muawiya Al-Badour, expressed his gratitude to the three companies for their assistance to Jordanian patients who live in remote areas with limited access to medical treatment.

“There are many remote areas in Jordan, where many ophthalmic patients need help in treating their medical conditions, corneal diseases in particular, not to mention the enormous strains on hospitals due to the Syrian refugee crisis," Said Dr. Al-Bdour.

The Companies information: The main and largest partner among these companies is the State-owned Korea Electric Power
Corporation (KEPCO) (a South Korean investor), owning 80 percent of Qatrana Electric Power Company’s equity, 60 percent of Amman Asia Electric Power Company, and 100 percent in Fujeij Wind Power Company.
