A member of the National Committee for Epidemics Bassam Hijjawi Wednesday said there are social customs and traditions on Fridays that contribute to the increase in 'unwanted' gatherings, in light of the coronavirus crisis.
He told Hayat FM that the cancellation of Friday lockdowns is one of the reasons that lead to a rise in COVID-19 infections in Jordan. He added that the new mutated strain of the virus and reopening new sectors have also contributed to the spreading of the virus.
He noted one day lockdown per week is enough to regain control of the spreading of the virus in the Kingdom. He added that the committee "did not discuss imposing a two-week lockdown."
