Monday, the Commissioner of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Sharhabeel Madi said that lifting the Friday lockdown and reducing the curfew hours has improved the tourism economy in Aqaba.

He added occupancy rate of hotels and serviced apartments rose up to 60 percent.

Madi said that Aqaba's inspection teams made sure that all cafes, restaurants and hotels comply with health and safety measures, which include wearing face masks and social distancing.

He also pointed out that Wadi Rum was declared as a coronavirus-free tourist destination, which will enable tourists to spend several days in a healthy environment.

Notably, the tourism movement in Aqaba decreased by 70 percent last year compared to 2019 due to the pandemic.
