A doctor at the Royal Hospital in London Ahmed Al-Mashtat said COVID-19 has 17 mutations and is the reason behind the virus spreading quickly. During an interview with Roya, he said a new strain has recently been detected in Bristol in the UK, similar to the variant found in South Africa.

New strains began to appear in Finland and Nigeria but cannot be tracked due to the lack of technology. He added that scientists are still monitoring all different mutations to collect more information and ensure that vaccines continue to be effective against different mutations.

He pointed out that all available COVID-19 vaccines are still effective against the virus. However, he expressed concern about future mutations. He pointed out that coronavirus vaccine manufacturers have started developing new production lines to keep up with the emerging mutations.

Mashtat noted that new COVID-19 mutations are infecting children, especially the South African mutated variant.
