Saturday, the Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko announced the registration of a third vaccine against the coronavirus called 'CoviVac.' Murashko said in a statement that CoviVac vaccine has proven its efficacy and safety against the coronavirus.

Notably, Russia's Chumakov research institute said that the first trials of the CoviVac vaccine on children and the elderly are set to begin next April.

Russia has already approved two COVID-19 vaccines, including the Sputnik V and EpiVacCorona vaccines.

In December, Russia began its national vaccination campaign against the coronavirus.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Russia confirmed 4,139,031 coronavirus cases and 82,396 deaths.
