New lockdown measures began in Iraq on Friday amid a huge uptick in coronavirus cases.

A curfew will be imposed daily from 8pm to 5am, with a complete closure on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

On the first day of the closure Friday, the main roads in Baghdad were clear of the usual traffic, with officers establishing barriers to arrest any violators.

Pharmacies remained open and restaurants were allowed to operate by delivery, but all other businesses were ordered to close.
