A European source said Friday that the European Union will announce during the G7 meeting that it will double its contribution to the COVAX initiative, which aims to distribute the coronavirus vaccine to poor countries and ensure equitable vaccine processes.

The EU's total contribution will now be one million Euros.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will also announce during the meeting that the Union has donated 100 million euros in humanitarian aid to support the vaccination campaign in Africa, according to the same source.
