Thursday, Saudi Arabia’s Food and Drug Authority approved the AstraZeneca-Oxford COVID-19 vaccine for use, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The SPA said “The authourity approved the use of the vaccine and allowed its import based on the data provided, which has been reviewed with all its details according to accurate scientific methodology.”

Eariler Thursday, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health announced the launch of the second phase of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign across the Kingdom.

Dec. 17, Saudi Arabia began its national coronavirus vaccination campaign, using the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. The Saudi Health Minister Tawfiq Al-Rabiah was the first person to receive the vaccine in the Kingdom.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Saudi Arabia has confirmed 373,702 coronavirus cases and 6,445 deaths.
