The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced Thursday that teaching in universities during the second semester of the academic year 2020/2021 will be held remotely. However, each university will decide whether practical and theoretical courses will be held remotely or face-to-face.

The ministry added that evaluation methods will be based on the COVID-19 situation in the Kingdom.

On Jan. 24, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Muhammad Abu Qudeis said that preparations are underway to deal with two routes for students' return to universities in the second semester.

Abu Qudeis said that the first option is for distance learning to remain in place, while the second option includes the students' return to study in universities with strict health protocols to be implemented.

He said that the decision to return to studying in universities depends on the COVID-19 situation in the Kingdom.

University classes will involve both distance and on-campus learning, with university requirements taught remotely and some specialized courses held on the university campus.

He said that the second semester will start in Feb. 21.
