Israeli Occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office confirmed Tuesday in response to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken that the Golan Heights "will remain Israeli."

The US Secretary of State had hinted in a television interview with CNN Monday that US support for the Israeli Occupation’s control of the Golan is not consistent.

Blinken said that the Golan is "very important to the security of Israel," but that "legal issues are another thing."

"As long as [President Bashar] al-Assad is in power in Syria, and as long as Iran is in Syria (...) these are matters that pose a great security threat to Israel."

And Blinken added, "I believe that controlling the Golan in this situation remains of real importance for the security of Israel."

A senior official in Netanyahu's office, who preferred not to be named, confirmed to AFP Tuesday that "Israel's position is clear."

According to the Israeli Occupation official, "the Golan Heights will remain Israeli regardless of any possible future scenario."

In March 2019, former US President Donald Trump recognized the Israeli Occupation's sovereignty over the lands of the Syrian Golan, which the Israeli Occupation occupied in 1967 and annexed in 1981.

The US move was not recognized by the international community, with Damascus describing it as a "flagrant violation" of its sovereignty and international resolutions.

The Israeli Occupation and Syria are still at war, despite the establishment of a demilitarized border area through the armistice agreement. These borders remained quiet for a relatively long period until the beginning of the conflict in Syria in 2011.

Blinken indicated during the interview that US President-elect Joe Biden has not spoken since his inauguration on the twentieth of last month, to Israeli Occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
