Tuesday, the media spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Abdul Ghafoor Al-Quraan, confirmed to Roya that the ministry has not received any violations that would lead to the closure of a school in Jordan so far.

Jan. 13, the Minister of Education Tayseer Al-Nuaimi announced that schools will be reopening starting Feb. 7. In light of the reopening of classrooms, Nuaimi announced that assessment stations will be established to assess adherance to health protocols, and to report any COVID-19 related violations or infections to the ministry.

During a phone call, Al-Quraan said that if COVID-19 infections are detected, the school will not be closed. However, works in the particular classroom where the infection was found will be suspended.

He pointed out that the only way a school will close its doors is if the school has "weak or very weak" compliance with the set health protocols, if students and teachers do not adhere to wearing face masks, if the school does not have the proper sanitation equipment or does not adhere to social distancing, and if the school has registered COVID-19 infections which exceed three percent.

He said that in the event that the teacher suffers from a coronavirus infection, the entire classroom education will be transferred to distance learning for 10 days if no symptoms appear on the teacher. However, if the teacher has coronavirus symptoms, the distance learning period will be increased to 13 days.

Al-Quraan indicated that a classroom was closed in the Mafraq Governorate after recording a COVID-19 infection.

Notably, the ministry announced Monday that a total of 19 coronavirus cases were recorded in schools, nine of which were recorded among teachers, eight among students and two among administrative staff.
