On 44th anniversary, Jordan recalls memory of Her late Majesty Queen Alia Al-Hussein

Tuesday marks the 44th anniversary of the passing of Her late Majesty Queen Alia Al Hussein, who passed away Feb. 9, 1977 while performing her humanitarian role in the service of the Jordanian people.

Her Majesty was born Dec. 25, 1948 in Cairo, Egypt, where her late father Bahaa El Din Toukan, was Jordan’s ambassador to Egypt.

Her Majesty studied political science at Loyola University in Rome, Italy.

Since the Queen’s union with His late Majesty King Hussein bin Talal, Her Majesty made substantial contributions to various women's causes and charitable events, and also contributed to supporting activities related to the livelihood of citizens and improving their living conditions.

Her Majesty was a role model for Jordanian women and she always emphasized the importance of the role of women in achieving Jordan's development goals, empowering them and enhancing their role in various fields.

In honor of her late mother, Her Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein founded ‘Tkiyet Um Ali’, a non-governmental organization which provides food to the underprivileged, Her Highness embodied this idea that her late mother had long sought to establish.
