Wednesday, the Chief Justice Department revealed that in 2020 the number of divorce cases decreased to 22,780, while in 2019 it was 28,013.

Notably, 62,665 marriage contracts were registered in the Sharia courts, which was a 50 percent increase over what was recorded in 2019.

Data from the Supreme Judge Department showed that 68 percent of marital contracts were from the governorates of Irbid and Zarqa, and that the number of marriages for the age group under the age of 18 was 740 marriages, an increase of four percent compared to 2019.

The percentage of divorces for marriages that did not last more than one year, decreased from 6.8 percent in 2019, to five percent in 2020.
