During an interview with Amen FM Tuesday, the Minister of Health Nathir Obeidat announced that all those who test positive for COVID-19 in the Kingdom, will also be tested for the mutated COVID-19 strain which first emerged in the UK.
The mutated strain of COVID-19 was first discovered in September in Britain.
Jordan confirmed the first two cases of this strain Dec. 27, 2020.
Obeidat indicated that the existence of new technologies and the ease of conducting tests to detect the mutated strain is available in the Kingdom, adding that there are 70 countries that have announced the presence of this strain.
He said that the mutation should be closely monitored due to its rapid spread despite it not increasing the severity of symptoms, and that the government has taken several measures at airports and borders with the aim of reducing the spread of the virus.
He added that the pandemic indicators in the Kingdom are currently good, and recent days have been witnessing stability. He said that the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases was expected, noting that the situation requires caution.
In regards to vaccinations, Obeidat confirmed that the second dose of vaccinations for those who have taken the first dose will begin Thursday.
