5.1 magnitude earthquake hits Izmir

Monday morning, an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale hit Izmir city in Turkey. The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Department said in a statement that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 20.69 km below the surface of the earth, and was followed by an aftershock one minute later, with a magnitude of 4.8 and a depth of seven km.

The Turkish Minister of Environment and Urban Planning, Murat Korum, stated that the ministry has not yet received any reports of damage and losses following the earthquake.
