Sunday, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced the registration of 13 new cases of the British COVID-19 mutation in several areas of the West Bank, bringing the number of mutated infections to 41.

The ministry added in press statements that the infections were discovered in Ramallah and Al-Bireh (three), the suburbs of Jerusalem (five), Bethlehem (four), and Hebron (one).

The ministry explained that the symptoms appearing on those with the mutated COVID-19 infection mimicked those infected with the previous strains, stressing that the medical teams are closely following their condition.

They pointed out that there are other PCR test samples that have been taken which they suspect to also have a COVID-19 mutation infection, however, they are currently still being examined in the laboratories of the Arab American University in the suburb of Al-Rihan, Ramallah, which includes a research team with members from the university and the Ministry of Health.

They indicated that the source of the British mutation infection is not yet known, adding that preventive medicine teams are currently investigating into the matter.
