Friday, Hungary became the first EU member state to approve the Chinese "Sinopharm" vaccine for use, according to the country's chief health official, Cecilia Mueller.

"Today, the National Institute of Pharmacy and Nutrition approved the use of the Sinopharm vaccine," she said.

Last week Hungarian authorities granted a six-month authorization to Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine.

Hungary has confirmed a total of 364,909 coronavirus cases and 12,374 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
