Professor of drug discovery and development at the University of Jordan Jihad al-Maliti said Thursday that vaccines are the most effective solution for the coronavirus crisis, calling on citizens to get vaccinated and disregard rumors without supporting scientific evidence.

During his lecture "Will vaccines be the end of the Corona pandemic?" at the Jordan Society for Scientific Research, Entrepreneurship, and Creativity (JSSR), he confirmed the effectiveness and safety of the vaccine, as well as the adequacy of related clinical studies.

He noted that out of the 40 million people who received the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, only 20 reported allergic reactions after getting vaccinated.

Maliti said that, for the first time in history, a vaccine was produced in less than a year, whereas they normally take nearly 15 years to be developed. He pointed out that there are approximately 100 companies currently working on developing COVID-19 vaccines, many of which are in the final stages and will soon receive approvals.

He explained that the new strain discovered in Britain is not very significant, as vaccines have proven effective against it. However, he said the fast-spreading mutated variant discovered in South Africa is more significant, as it could overcome natural and vaccine immunity.
