According to statistics published by the Numbeo global database website, Jordan ranked 14th worldwide and second in the Arab world in terms of traffic congestion.

Jordan was ahead of South Africa, Lebanon, Russia, and Brazil, in the census that included 85 countries, followed by Austria.

Nigeria ranked first, followed by Egypt in sixth and Turkey in 13th. The UAE came in 24th place, Kuwait in 30th, the Israeli Occupation in 34th, and Qatar 41st place.

Traffic congestion has increased in the capital, Amman, during the last two years, especially with the Greater Amman Municipality intensifying works to establish a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.

On Nov. 14, 2020, The Minister of Public Works and Housing Yahya Al-Kasabi said he expects the Ministry to complete the BRT project by the end of 2021.
