The Korean government has donated USD one million to the World Food Program (WFP) to help meet the nutritional needs of the most vulnerable refugees in Jordan.

The announcement came during a meeting held Tuesday between the Ambassador of Korea Lee Jae-wan and the Resident Representative and Country Director for the WFP in Jordan Alberto Correa Mendes.

The meeting stressed that the Korean government will continue to support the WFP's activities to provide different kinds of aid to refugees in Jordan, noting that its contribution comes as part of a plan to help Jordan respond to the Syrian crisis following the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the meeting, Mendes said: "We are grateful for the long-term support of the Republic of Korea at a time when families have increasingly become unable to meet their own needs and rely more on food aid provided by the program."

In light of the increasing needs following the pandemic, he said the Korean government's financial assistance will enhance the capacity of the WFP to meet the food needs of refugees in Jordan through innovative ways to provide monthly aid.
