Portugal's president tests positive for coronavirus, then negative

The President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa tested positive for COVID-19 late Monday, according to a statement published by the Portuguese Presidency. 

He then tested negative Tuesday. 

The president plans to isolate at his residence until the second result is confirmed. 

The 72-year-old had a major presidential debate scheduled for Tuesday, in addition to a meeting with health experts to discuss the imposition of a lockdown in the country, however, his office said Rebelo de Sousa had already cancelled all his public appearances.

Portugal has confirmed a total of 489,293 coronavirus cases and 7,925 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
