Friday, Twitter permanently suspended President Donald Trump’s account. The company tweeted "After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence."

"In the context of horrific events this week, we made it clear on Wednesday that additional violations of the Twitter Rules would potentially result in this very course of action."

On Wednesday, Trump's account was banned for 12 hours after a number of his supporters stormed the US Capitol to try to stop Congress from affirming President-elect Joe Biden’s victory. Twitter described what happened as “severe violations of our Civic Integrity policy.”
