The price of the virtual "Bitcoin" currency Saturday crossed the threshold of $30,000 for the first time in its history.

At 14:13 Paris time, Bitcoin was valued at $30,823.30, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The virtual currency crossed the $20,000 threshold for the first time Dec. 16.
