Tuesday, the second military field hospital in Irbid has begun receiving COVID-19 patients. The field hospital is located in Prince Rashid bin Al-Hassan Military Hospital, with the aim of enhancing the hospitals' capacity and supporting the government's efforts in facing the pandemic.

The Director General of the Royal Medical Services (RMS), Brigadier General Adel Al-Wahadneh, said that "the hospital is equipped with all necessary equipment and devices for those infected with the virus, including respirators, fluid withdrawal devices, and monitoring devices, which contribute to treating the [infected]."

Al-Wahadneh stated that the hospital will serve the beneficiaries of the armed forces and security services, their families, and the children of Irbid in coordination with the Ministry of Health, in a manner that ensures the safety of medical personnel from the risk of infection from COVID-19.

He stated that the military field hospital started receiving cases simultaneously with the campaign to conduct PCR tests for civilians and military personnel in all RMS hospitals.

He added that the hospital, which is built on an area of 4,650 square meters and under the direct supervision of the Directorate of Housing and Military Works, contains about 300 COVID-19 beds, including 48 ICU beds, 18 medium care beds (which can be expanded per the severity of symptoms), and 234 beds for mild cases.

Notably, another RMS field hospital is set to open in the coming period in the South of the Kingdom, with the aim of developing capabilities in tackling the pandemic. The capacity in these three field hospitals will reach 900 beds, 220 of which are ICU beds.
