Friday, the Head of the National Center for Epidemics Feras Al-Hawari said that it has not yet been proven that the new mutations of COVID-19 are considered more severe, stressing that every country in the world must consider that the new mutation is present on its soil.

During Roya’s news bulletin, Al-Hawari announced that the new virus strain is everywhere, indicating that Jordan does not follow the process of examining the genetic sequence of the virus.

He said that the PCR examination is not the best way to find the genetic sequence of the COVID-19, and that the infection rates in Jordan are still high.

Additionally, he indicated that the cost of an antibody test is much more than the cost of administering the vaccine.

In regards to the vaccine and the date of its arrival in the Kingdom, he said that delaying the arrival of the vaccines would be useful in order for Jordan to be informed of any repercussions of the vaccine. He added that the five million Jordanians should not resort to taking the vaccine initially, and that it must be given to the most vulnerable first.

He said that the vaccines will arrive in the Kingdom at the beginning of February.

Al-Hawari pointed out that nearly two million Jordanians have been infected with the virus since the start of the pandemic, and that everyone must continue to fight COVID-19 as the reality of the virus has not changed.
