King Mohammed VI of Morocco, in a message to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, reiterated his affirmation of "the stability of the Moroccan position in support of the Palestinian cause," the day after the signing of a declaration of cooperation between the Kingdom, the Israeli Occupation, and the United States in Rabat.

The royal court said in a statement Wednesday that the Moroccan monarch sent a message to Abbas in which he reaffirmed "the internationally agreed two-state solution" and adherence to negotiations "the only way to reach a final, lasting and comprehensive solution."

He also announced a forthcoming meeting in Morocco of the Jerusalem Committee chaired by the King, stressing that he would "continue to defend the special status" of the city, "protect its Islamic character," and "the freedom to practice religious rites for the followers of the three religions."

This comes the day after the signing in Rabat of a declaration providing for cooperation between the United States, Morocco and the Israeli Occupation in several economic fields and the opening of direct air routes between the last two countries, in parallel to the American recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara, which is in dispute with the Polisario Front backed by Algeria.

This announcement culminated in the first visit of an Israeli Occupation-American delegation to Morocco, after the resumption of relations with the Israeli Occupation Dec. 10, headed by the advisor to the US President Jared Kushner and the advisor to the Israeli Prime Minister, Meir Ben Shabat.

It is expected to reopen an Israeli Occupation liaison office in Rabat within two weeks, the same office that was opened when the two countries established formal relations in the wake of the Oslo peace agreement, was closed when relations were severed with the second intifada in 2000.

Morocco became the fourth Arab country to normalize its relations with the Israeli Occupation recently under the auspices of the outgoing US President. Palestinians oppose the normalization of relations between the Israeli Occupation and the Arab countries without reaching an Israeli Occupation-Palestinian peace agreement.

While the US recognition of Moroccan sovereignty of the Sahara left a wide range of relief in the Kingdom, normalization with the Israeli Occupation has provoked mixed reactions between welcoming and condemning. Last week, the authorities banned two demonstrations condemning normalization in Rabat.

Mohammed VI had previously informed the Palestinian President, in a phone call, of the decision to resume relations with the Israeli Occupation on Dec. 10.
