New strain of COVID-19 may already be present in Jordan: Hayajneh

Thursday, the Head of the Coronavirus Portfolio, Wael Al-Hayajneh discussed the COVID-19 situation in Jordan.

Hayajneh said that the new strain of coronavirus may already be present in Jordan, adding that the COVID-19 mutation is not new and was discovered in September.

He said that this strain of the virus is more transmissible, however, the current vaccines against coronavirus can combat the new strain.

As a precautionary measure, the government monitored everyone who has returned to the country from the UK, Hayajneh said.

In order to limit the spread of coronavirus, Hayajneh stressed that all citizens must adhere to the required health and safety measures, which include wearing face masks and social distancing.

He added that if the Kingdom confirms a case of the new strain of COVID-19, new restrictions will be imposed.

He lastly added the COVID-19 situation in Jordan is 'good.'
