Tuesday, Kuwait announced the reopening of its airspace to receive flights for a period of 24 hours only to facilitate the return of its citizens from abroad.

The decision comes after Kuwait announced the suspension of its international flights and closures of borders starting Monday until early January, due to concerns related to a new strain of the highly contagious COVID-19 from Britain.

The Kuwaiti government said all cargo flights and commercial routes would remain operational.

The Kuwaiti health authorities ordered all those who came from the European Union or the United Kingdom during the past week to take a PCR test immediately.

Monday, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health recorded 230 COVID-19 cases, which brought the total confirmed infections to 148,209. Additionally, one death was recorded, bringing the total deaths in the country to 922.
