Tuesday, Germany extended border closures until Jan. 6 from Britain and South Africa, in light of the rapidly spreading new coronavirus variant detected in both countries, according to the German Ministry of Health.

Initially, the implementation of these measures was to continue until Dec. 31.

Sunday, the suspension of trains, buses, ships and airplanes from the two countries began, and all other arrivals from the two countries were prevented from entering German territory.
