King Abdullah II inaugurates Amman field hospital

Sunday, His Majesty King Abdullah II inaugurated the Amman Field Hospital of the Ministry of Health, which is designated to receive COVID-19 patients.

His Majesty reviewed the departments and equipment of the hospital, which was established within 30 days of the campus of Prince Hamzah Hospital, with an area of 6,800 square meters. The hospital includes 408 beds, of which 84 are intensive care beds and 140 are isolation beds.

During the inauguration, His Majesty listened to a briefing from the Minister of Health Nathir Obeidat, in which he confirmed that the hospital was established in accordance with the latest quality standards.

The ministry will continue to establish three other field hospitals in Irbid, Ma’an and Aqaba, which are expected to be completed soon.

According to Obeidat, the capacity of the four field hospitals will be 1,174 beds, of which 248 are for intensive care patients. The field hospitals will assist to reduce pressure on hospitals to deal with other illnesses.

The director of Amman Field Hospital, Khaldoun Allawi, pointed out that the hospital was provided with all medical, nursing and administrative equipment and personnel, and includes intensive care equipment and oxygen support equipment.

The Amman Field Hospital is the third to be opened in the Kingdom to treat people with COVID-19, as His Majesty in the past weeks opened two military field hospitals in Zarqa and Irbid.

The opening was attended by the Prime Minister, the Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court, and His Majesty's Policy Advisor.
