Friday, the Assistant Director General of the Department of Antiquities, Ahmad Al-Shami told Roya that it is exceedingly common to find archaeological sites or parts of them in Amman.

Al-Shami explained that the reason for this is that Amman is built on top of several ancient civilizations including the Kingdom of Ammon, Roman civilizations, Byzantine Christian civilizations and Islamic civilizations.

During his visit to the recently uncovered Roman site in Downtown Amman, Al-Shami confirmed the finding of a group of other archaeological elements that led to this discovery.

He pointed out that the downtown area was a public area in the Roman era, explaining that baths in the Roman era differs from the modern bathroom, as it was a common meeting place for gentlemen in some areas.

Al-Shami indicated that the Roman bath site consists of rooms, several heating rooms, changing rooms and living rooms.
