A total of 1,600 facilities from various sectors and 3,021 citizens have violated Defense Order 20 from the order's issuance on Oct. 25 to Dec. 13, according to the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply (MIT) Tuesday.

Defense Order 20 prohibits overcrowding and all other forms of non-compliance with official health and safety measures. It also involves an increase in the number of governmental and official agencies (12) authorized to conduct inspections.

Approximately 96,000 inspections were carried out by regulatory authorities.

Official warnings have been issued to 1,034 supermarkets and food stores, 94 restaurants and coffee shops, 157 electronic and appliance stores, 41 bakeries, 45 clothing stores and other facilities in different sectors.

Local authorities stressed the importance of compliance with health and safety measures by wearing facemasks and social distancing.

The MIT said inspections are ongoing in all governorates to ensure compliance with defense orders and take action against violators.

The government called on citizens to contact 0779999116 for more information.
