COVID-19 transforms lungs to stone: study

The Director of Forensic Medicine at Jordan University, Imad Al-Abdallat told Roya Saturday that a Jordanian study conducted on COVID-19 deaths found that lung tissue transformed from a sponge-like tissue to ‘hardened stone,' following infection.

He said that 10 tissue samples were taken, examined, and dissected, in order to demonstrate the tangible effects of the virus.

Abdallat said that within these samples, inflammation was found in the blood vessels of the lungs, in addition to pneumonia, which changed the lungs from spongy to stiff.

International study results mirror the Jordanian study in most cases, added Abdallat.
