The Emirati government affirmed their “permanent” and historical commitment Thursday to support the Palestinian people in achieving all their legitimate rights in line with international law and relevant UN resolutions.

The UAE called for intensifying work to end the Palestinian conflict with the Israeli occupation by renewing its "unflappable" position on meeting fair international initiatives and working with regional and international partners to find a solution for the Palestinians in a way that meets the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people.

The position came in a statement by UAE’s permanent representative to the UN, Ambassador Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, prior to the general debate held by the United Nations General Assembly Wednesday which discussed matters related to the Palestinian issue.

She quoted some of what was mentioned in a message sent by the President of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to the UN on the occasion of the celebration of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People which fell on Sunday.

Nusseibeh stressed that the UAE "attaches great importance to the Palestinian issue and places it at the top of its foreign policy priorities," reiterating that the state "will not abandon its firm position, which is in line with the Arab position in support of the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, According to international references and the Arab Peace Initiative."

She emphasized that achieving this requires efforts and support for initiatives aimed at creating an appropriate environment for achieving peace and establishing the two-state solution.

Additionally, Nusseibeh expressed the UAE’s concern about the deteriorating humanitarian, economic and health conditions in the Palestinian territories, especially with the spread of the pandemic.

She stressed the need to support the vital sectors in Palestine, especially the health sector, reiterating the UAE's commitment to providing aid to the Palestinian people which exceeded USD 840 million in the period from 2013 to 2020, including through support via UN agencies.
