Like many sectors in the Kingdom, the sports and fitness industry has witnessed catastrophic losses during the coronavirus pandemic.

Gyms were closed completely for months in the spring, and were once again forced to close Nov. 1, following a sharp rise in cases in the country.

"The amount of damage is vast and has affected all fitness and bodybuilding clubs," said gym owner Amro Jalajel.

Employees and business owners within the sports sector stressed that there is no basis for shutting down gyms, as there is no scientific evidence or proof that gyms and other fitness facilities are hotspots for COVID-19.

"[Show us] one document from the Minister of Health (...) [proving that gyms] are hotspots and that the [epidemic] curve increased or decreased after these closures," said food supplement company employee Zaid Abu Ali.
