A continuous increase in the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths prompted the Palestinian government to impose total lockdown in the West Bank from Friday to Sunday morning.

Pharmacies and bakeries are exempt from the lockdown.

Ministry of Interior spokesman Ghassan Nimer said movement in the streets is prohibited unless absolutely necessary.

Security service patrols will be stationed in the streets of all cities, and some city entrances will have barriers installed, as per the decisions made by the Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh.

Nimer stressed that authorities will punish all violators within the regulations and laws that were approved in the declared state of emergency.
