The travel website Lonely Planet included Amman in the list of best travel destinations in the world for the year 2021. The capital of Jordan was described as a 'hospitable destination' with an emphasis on diversity and inclusiveness.
The list was amended after the sector was subjected to the largest change and disruption in recent history, the coronavirus crisis. Lonely Planet stated that the "Best in Travel 2021" list was redesigned to "reflect how the world and attitudes towards travel have changed and how our planet has changed," adding that the 2021 list focuses on the incredible people, places and businesses making a transformative contribution to travel in unprecedented times.
The Director General of the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat Tuesday said this is a real achievement for the Kingdom, which will play a fundamental role in increasing the number of tourists coming to Jordan. Amman is home to a number of striking historical sites and offers a rich dining and shopping experience, with a mix of global and local [options], he said.
Lonely Planet’s CEO Luis Cabrera said, "With travelers cautiously re-engaging with the world and focused on ensuring their impact is safe and positive for host communities, we have decided to focus on destinations that truly enable visitors to make a genuine contribution."
