The government is working on a package to alleviate the sectors most affected by the coronavirus crisis, especially the private sector, said Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh Monday. The goal is to preserve current jobs and create new opportunities through strategic projects in the agricultural sector, as well as the pharmaceutical and food industries.

During a meeting with His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Royal Highness Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II at Al Husseiniya Palace Monday, Khasawneh said the Supreme Committee, that was formed to work on the agricultural map, will meet in the coming days. The committee will work on one an important agricultural projects that aims to employ citizens all over the Kingdom.

The committee will work on this agricultural map, which was developed under royal directives and will be implemented in a comprehensive manner to include both military and security farms, as well as value-added farms that increase export opportunities. The government aims to find optimal solutions for citizens to make use of all agricultural lands included in the map, taking into account the most effective use of water resources.

Khasawneh said the government will work on maximizing the contribution of the agricultural sector to the GDP by overcoming financial challenges through the use of modern technology, giving youth a role in land reclamation, employing youth to work on productive projects and creating additional job opportunities.

Khasawneh took the opportunity to point out that the number of hospital beds was doubled and work is underway to establish large field hospitals that is expected to be ready within a few weeks. There will be field hospitals operating as part of the public sector and the Royal Medical Services across the Kingdom. These hospitals will increase the health sector's capacity by about 1,600 beds. Jordan will also be receiving a field hospital from the United Arab Emirates.
