The number of COVID-19 cases is slowly increasing but not multiplying, said the Head of the Coronavirus Portfolio at The Ministry of Health Wael Al-Hayajneh on Roya's Nabd Albalad Sunday. This means that Jordan has entered the 'slowdown stage' in terms of the number of coronavirus cases.

The percentage of daily positive PCR tests in Jordan ranges between 20 to 23 percent and the Kingdom is approaching its peak regarding the coronavirus crisis, he said. The percentage of cases that require hospitalization is five to six percent and the death rate is 1.2 percent.

A total of 822 ventilators are available at hospitals designated for coronavirus patients that are affiliated with the Ministry of Health, 30 percent of which are currently occupied.

Hayajneh said there is no total lockdown in Jordan and related rumours are false. He described it as 'the most hated thing' that neither the govenrment nor citizens want.

The high number of cases recorded in Ramtha Sunday are the outcome of three days and none of the cases recorded in the clothing factory in Aqaba were hospitalized, he noted.

Hayajneh stressed that the positive coronavirus cases coming in through border crossings will not affect the COVID-19 situation in Jordan. He praised Jordanian citizens' commitment to health and safety measures and reiterated the need to avoid large gatherings and wear facemasks.

Jordan has been facing the coronavirus pandemic for 47 weeks, he added.
