The Head of the the General Syndicate for Products and Traders of Furniture Sharaf Al Hayajneh Sunday called on the government to review and re-evaluate the laws and instructions imposed on the local economy. He requested an amendment that aligns with the current circumstances, indicating that the furniture sector is struggling due to lockdowns and their negative repercussions on all sectors.

Hayajneh also requested involving the private sector, chamber of industry, and chamber of commerce in the decision making process, especially when it comes to decisions that affect the local economy as a whole.

Some establishments were forced to close and lay off workers because of high bank interest rates, rent, and taxes. Hayajneh stressed the need to amend the percentage of contributions paid to social security and reduce the expenses that continuously burden Jordanian employers.

He reiterated the sharp decline in sales, lack of liquidity, high interest rates, store rents, and and energy costs associated with lockdowns.
