Turkish President imposes new restrictions amid second COVID-19 wave

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a press conference Tuesday, announced new strict measures to combat coronavirus in the country.

The new restrictions include imposing curfews on weekends, as movement will be allowed between 10am until 8pm only, closing restaurants to only operate through the delivery service. Erdogan added the working hours of malls, markets, restaurants and hairdressers will be from 10am until 8pm.

He stated that the authorities have decided to impose a partial curfew on people over the age of 65 and those under 20.

Additonally, all schools and cinemas will remain closed until the end of 2020, the President said.

Previously, the Turkish Minister of Health Fakhr Kujah said the country has entered the stages of the second COVID-19 wave.

Turkey has a total of 421,413 confirmed COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the crisis, 11,704 deaths and 359,063 recoveries.
