The Assistant Secretary-General for Primary Health Care at the Ministry of Health, Ghazi Sharkas said Monday that a new identification form will be circulated to hospitals to better distinguish between causes of death. The purpose of the form is to distinguish between death by coronavirus, death by other causes while positive for COVID-19, and death by other causes while negative for COVID-19.

He added that when a patient arrives at the hospital already dead, a PCR test is conducted postmortem according to protocol.

The Ministry of Health confirmed it is seeking transparency and accuracy in COVID-19 death announcements, according to global protocol.

Sharkas stated that the main reason for the high percentage of positive PCR tests is due to stopping random tests and focusing on individuals who have come into close contact with confirmed cases, and those with evident symptoms.

He indicated that 6 percent of people with COVID-19 need hospital admission, and only 3 percent of them need close care.

In regards to recoveries, Sharkas said that Jordan has recorded thousands of recovery cases for patients who entered home quarantine, and the numbers will be announced Monday or Tuesday.
