A new hashtag was seen on Twitter Sunday calling for the cancellation of all total or partial lockdowns in Jordan.

Jordanians demanded the abolition of total lockdowns in Jordan following the four-day-total-lockdown which took place following the 19th parliamentary elections and ended Sunday at 6am.

User Diana Al-Ebeisi said “the people can no longer take it."

Another Twitter user Thamer Al-Abtah demanded the cessation of rent payments, electricity and water bills, asking “where do people pay from? Where do you eat, drink and pay bills?”

The government imposed a total lockdown in order to preserve the health of citizens and to prevent any gatherings in light of the coronavirus crisis.

Despite restrictions, hundreds of candidate and MP supporters disobeyed the total lockdown and took to the streets to celebrate the election results.

The Minister of State for Media Affairs, Ali Al-Ayed, said that a meeting was held Saturday to discuss the coronavirus crisis which was headed by Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh, with the aim of reviewing developments related to the epidemic.

Al-Ayed stated that the committee did not make a decision regarding a new total lockdown, stressing that everything will remain in accordance with the current arrangements and procedures.
