The government does not have any plans to impose a total lockdown, said the Minister of State for Media Affairs Ali Al-Ayed during a meeting with the National Committee for Epidemic Emergencies headed by Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh Saturday.

The meeting discussed the latest developments in the Jordanian COVID-19 health situation.

Al-Ayed said during last month, hospitals have been provided with 1,200 beds and 200 ICU beds, noting that the Jordanian health system is still capable to handle the coronavirus crisis.

Additionally, he said three new field hospitals have been established with a total capacity of 950 beds and 180 ICU beds, in Amman, Irbid and Ma'an.

Citizens should comply with health and safety measures, such as wearing masks, social distancing and adhere to defense law orders in order to limit the spread of the virus, Al-Ayed added.

Jordan has a total of 141,305 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 1,704 deaths since the beginning of the crisis in March.
