The Minister of Public Works and Housing Yahya Al-Kasabi said Saturday he expects the Ministry to complete the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project by the end of 2021.

The BRT project will be a method of public transport which is significantly quicker than alternative public modes of transport, with its own lane in roads.

According to the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), the aim of the project is to integrate the public transport system and the private sector.

During an interview with Roya, Al-Kasabi said that the ministry's cadres are benefiting from the days of the total lockdown, which are significantly reducing the days needed to complete the bus project, and easing transportation of ministry vehicles on the roads without traffic.

Al-Kasabi added that the Ministry of Public Works is racing against time to complete the fast bus project.

He pointed out that the rate of completion of the project in the Ain Ghazal region amounted to roughly 35 percent, pointing out that the fast bus project consists of four packages at a cost of JOD 140 million.

He indicated that the ministry has coordinated with the concerned authorities to remove obstacles that may hinder the project's progress.

Previously, works were suspended during the COVID-19 lockdown but construction resumed April after calls from Amman’s mayor, Yousef Shawarbeh.
