Wednesday, Palestinians took to the streets across the West Bank to rcommemorate the 16th anniversary of the death of the first Palestinian President and former chairman of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), Yasser Arafat.

In Ramallah, thousands gathered in front of Arafat’s grave and lit candles, as requested by the Fatah movement.

Arafat died in a French hospital 11 years ago, after he became fatally ill following four years of siege on his Ramallah headquarters by the Israeli Occupation Forces.

In light of these events, clashes were witnessed between young Palestinians and IOF soldiers all over the West Bank including Ramallah, Qalqilya, Jenin and Tubas. Seven youths were detained, according to WAFA news agency.

In addition, soldiers opened fire which resulted in the injuring of a 20-year-old Palestinian, sources told WAFA.
